Nikon Z 135mm F1.8 S Plena FX Lens
The very character of Plena is all-round optical perfection. The wide Nikon Z mount has opened new possibilities for lens design, and Plena takes advantage of them all to deliver truly circular bokeh even in the furthest corners of the frame. Combined with the compression of the 135mm focal length, subject separation is truly striking. Even when shooting wide open against complex backgrounds or at close range, the finest details can be isolated with crystalline sharpness against the ethereal bokeh.

f/1.8 re-defined
Texture. Pattern. Colour. You don’t need to stop this telephoto lens down to achieve the best results. Shoot wide open and you’ll still get all the sharpness, detail, and brightness—all the way to the edge.
Dream it. Create it.
Plena will showcase your flair for your subject in stills and movies. Weighing just shy of a kilo and with customisable controls, it’s beautifully manageable whether shooting handheld or rigged.
Superb anti-reflection and backlight control
Perfection starts with control, and the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena handles light dispersion with extraordinary finesse, cutting through glare and leaving lens flare behind. The clarity of your images will take your breath away. Meso Amorphous Coat is Nikon’s best anti-reflection coating. It eliminates incidental light coming from both diagonal and vertical directions, giving this full-frame telephoto lens exceptional control over ghosting and flare. ARNEO coat further reduces ghost and flare effects caused by incident light entering the lens vertically. If dramatic backlighting is part of your creative vision, you can shoot directly into harsh light sources and still capture the sharpest, clearest images imaginable. If you’re creating nightscapes, point light sources like stars and city lights will be round, sharp, and clear.
Astonishing detail. Captivating resolution.
The very character of Plena is all-round optical perfection, made possible thanks to the Z mount and the highest overall rendering power of any S-Line lens. The balance of precision and bokeh is so beautifully mastered, you’ll create images of unparalleled artistry and depth. Even against complex backgrounds, fine details such as hair or feathers are rendered with such astounding sharpness, colour, and contrast you can almost feel them. Stars and city lights appear as perfectly circular highlights, free of sagittal coma and flare. Enhanced by the compression of 135mm, subject separation in stills and video is striking. Whether you shoot at f/1.8 or stopped down, you’ll attain pin-sharp, in-focus details which can melt away into the smoothly graded and beautifully soft background and foreground bokeh.
Masterful optical design
With its specialised optics and 11-blade rounded aperture, the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena is truly one of a kind. Stills or video, it will redefine your notion of what a 135mm f/1.8 lens can do. The complex optical construction comprises 16 lens elements in 14 groups. With the large Z mount allowing for optimum spacing of the elements, and the 11 rounded aperture blades minimising diffraction, aberrations are thoroughly suppressed at any aperture. Advanced optical technologies include the front lens element, which is ground from Nikon’s high-dispersion SR glass that counters hard-to-correct chromatic aberration by specifically targeting shorter wavelengths. And an aspherical lens element corrects sagittal coma and spherical aberrations, while also compensating for the curvature of field. Even wide open at f/1.8, you’ll attain critical sharpness, crisp contrast, superb point light source reproduction—and perfectly round bokeh with no discernible colour fringing.
Fast, meticulous autofocus
High pixel counts are unforgiving. Precision is critical and the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena medium-telephoto lens meets the challenge in stills and movies with unwavering autofocus. With two groups of lens elements moving in precise synchronisation, Plena acquires focus quickly, even at the widest aperture where the focal plane is thinner. Swift continuous adjustments keep your point of focus tack sharp, and the aberrations common to telephoto lenses are countered at all focusing distances: from close range to infinity. With autofocus performance like this, there’s no canvas too big. No detail too small. Any aperture, any light: you can isolate your subject with crystalline sharpness against the ethereal bokeh that Plena renders so perfectly.
Abundant peripheral light even at f/1.8
The Nikon Z mount has opened new possibilities for optical construction, and Plena takes advantage of them all to bring you peripheral brightness that surpasses any other S-Line lens when shooting wide open. The Z mount’s shorter flange focal distance allows for large lens elements to be placed at the rear where they can deliver more light to the sensor. And the wide inner diameter enables a natural progression of light as it passes through the lens to the sensor. Coupled with Plena’s incredible overall rendering power, the result is perfectly even brightness across the entire frame without any visible light fall-off at the edges.
A lens worthy of your passion
Shaped for perfect balance. Constructed entirely from tough yet lightweight metal. Engraved with the Plena name. This 135mm telephoto prime lens is every inch a masterpiece.
Effortless handling
Nikon’s renowned ergonomics allow plenty of space for your fingers to move around the lens. Textured rings and raised, well-placed buttons make it easy to identify the controls by touch.
Perfectly placed L-fn buttons
There are two programmable function buttons: one on the top of this telephoto lens and one on the side. Whether you’re shooting horizontally or vertically, you’ll find one right under your thumb.
Precision focus ring
The large, knurled focus ring actuates smoothly with just the right amount of torque and is covered in rubber for a steady grip. M/A focus mode lets you switch from AF to MF simply by turning the ring.
Clickless control ring
You can assign settings like aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation to the control ring: simply rotate the ring to increase the value. Its near-silent operation lets you shoot quiet scenes, quietly.
Accepts 82 mm filters
The NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena prime lens accepts the same wide range of 82 mm screw-on filters as our S-Line f/1.2 lenses. If you’ve got a favourite 82 mm filter, you can use it here.
Location ready
Extensive sealing around the joints and buttons, and a rubber gasket on the lens mount, keep dust, dirt, and moisture at bay. Nikon’s fluorine coating repels dirt and makes the front element easy to clean.
Stable exposure control
An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism ensures precise control of the lens’ aperture blades. You get stable exposures during continuous shooting and beautifully natural brightness transitions when filming.
Smooth focus transitions
Video shooters can enable linear focusing for controlled, accurate manual focus pulling. Focus breathing is highly suppressed, so you can shift focus without noticeably affecting the angle of view.
