Nikon D780 Camera Body
NB - This 'Body Only' version does not include a lens with the camera. You will require at least one lens in order to take pictures.
The tough D780 boasts a fast, dedicated Hybrid-AF system for Live View shooting, and a fast, powerful 51-point Phase-Detection AF system for viewfinder shooting. When shooting in Live View, photographers and moviemakers benefit from the same AF system as found in the acclaimed Nikon Z 6 mirrorless camera. Users can lock onto expressions with Eye-Detection AF and take advantage of low-light AF, which powers reliable subject acquisition all the way down to -6 EV. Photographers shooting through the viewfinder benefit from flagship tracking performance, and quick switching between advanced AF modes.
AF with viewfinder shooting
The 51-point Phase-Detection AF system is sensitive down to -3 EV and the bright optical viewfinder allows sharp, real-time confirmation of the action you frame. Track subjects at lightning speed, even in low light.
Always locked on
During viewfinder shooting, the 51-point AF system lets you adapt instantly with quick switching between advanced AF modes. Benefit from fast acquisition and stunning background isolation with Group-Area AF mode.
AF in Live View
When shooting in Live View, the 273-point Hybrid-AF system covers approx. 90 % of the frame horizontally and approx. 90 % vertically. The tilting monitor frees up the angles and offers touch shutter release and AF.
Sharp in any light
The 273-point Hybrid-AF system is sensitive down to -4 EV when shooting with a lens that has a maximum aperture of f/2 or wider. For really dark scenes, you can activate Low-Light AF and shoot down to -6 EV with AE.
Catch the look
When shooting stills in Live View, the whip-smart Hybrid-AF system with Eye-Detection AF can lock onto your subject’s eyes—and stay locked. Whether they’re alone or a face in a crowd. You select which eye to focus on via the multi-selector, and the camera maintains focus even if your subject is in constant motion.
Reveal those all-important seconds
Harness burst rates of up to 7 fps with AF/AE when shooting through the viewfinder. Get up to 12 fps when shooting in Silent Live View Photography mode. You get full resolution images, even when shooting in RAW.
Ultra-high-speed continuous shooting
Want to show the moves within the moves? Shoot in Live View and you can capture Full HD (2 MP) stills at up to 120 fps. Or you can capture 4K/UHD (8 MP) stills at up to 30 fps.
Be free to do your best work yet
The D780 lets you work directly with the F-mount NIKKOR lenses you love, and is compatible with all Nikon Speedlights. Radio-controlled Advanced Wireless Lighting is fully supported, freeing you to use the versatile SB-5000 flash unit. The camera’s high-speed data-transfer capabilities and wireless connectivity make it easy to get your images out there.
In-camera time-lapse
You can create spectacular 4K/UHD time-lapse movies in-camera. Exposure smoothing reduces variation between images, for seamless transitions. Silent interval-timer shooting counters mechanical blur and shutter noise. Low-light metering can be expanded to -6 EV in Low-Light AF, and shutter speed can be extended up to 900 s.

NX Studio software offers a full-fledged suite of intuitive tools for viewing, processing, and editing photos and videos. It combines the photo-and-video-viewing features of ViewNX-i with the photo-processing and retouch tools of Capture NX-D in a single, comprehensive workflow. Not only can it be used to process RAW pictures, but its editing tools - including tone curves and brightness and contrast adjustment - can also be applied to JPEG/TIFF images. It also offers a variety of features for such tasks as editing XMP/IPTC data, managing presets, viewing maps that show shooting locations based on location data embedded in pictures, and uploading pictures to the Web.
The intuitive software integrates the functions of Nikon’s current image viewing software, ViewNX-i*, and its image-processing and editing software, Capture NX-D*, allowing users to view, process and edit images in a single application.
NX Studio inherits a wide range of existing functions from ViewNX-i and Capture NX-D, including detailed editing functions such as Picture Control and White Balance settings, and Exposure Compensation for RAW data. In addition, it includes Colour Control Points that allow users to adjust colours within a specified area, and a Retouch Brush feature for advanced correction. Its intuitive menu structure is organised by workflow, which improves the overall response speed for each function and provides a smoother editing process for both stills and video.
The software will enable users to transfer images to Nikon's image sharing and storage service, NIKON IMAGE SPACE, and will be continually updated to ensure compatibility with new camera models. The software can be downloaded from Nikon's Download Centre at no charge.
PRIMARY NX STUDIO FEATURES
• Software enables the viewing, processing and editing of still images and video in one place
• A user friendly menu, categorised by workflow – making it simple to use and easy to understand
• A variety of display options, such as filmstrip with both horizontal and vertical preview options, in addition to an easy-to-read shooting information display
• Inherited XMP/IPTC information editing and preset management functions from ViewNX-i and detailed editing functions from Capture NX-D, including Colour Control Points
• Compatibility with other software, such as Nikon Transfer 2 and Camera Control Pro 2, supporting a smooth post-shooting workflow
* Support for the current View NX-i and Capture NX-D software applications, including updates to the latest OS and the addition of new functions, are not planned in the future. Customers currently using View NX-i and Capture NX-D software applications are advised to update to NX Studio.
