New Technology Explained
Advanced 45-megapixel stacked image sensor
A next-generation full-frame back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor combines stunning resolution and dynamic range with incredible speed and video capabilities. A max ISO 51,200 sensitivity (extendable to ISO 102,400) is supported by in-camera neural network noise reduction, for cleaner, more-detailed jpeg images.
Go large, with in-camera Upscaling
Deep-learning means that images can be upscaled in-camera by up to four times, generating high-resolution versions for cropping or printing at huge sizes. The same deep-learning capability delivers incredible noise reduction for smooth, detailed images at high ISO sensitivities
DIGIC Accelerator
The EOS R5 MARK II sees DIGIC Accelerator and DIGIC X image processors working alongside each other for phenomenal performance.
AF tracking of people, animals and objects is improved – even objects that are momentarily obscured from view are tracked continuously and kept in sharp focus
Action priority recognises key events in football, basketball and volleyball and moves the active AF point in anticipation
Stills and video can be captured simultaneously, thanks to the DIGIC Accelerator’s ability to process large volumes of data at speed
Action Priority focus mode
When shooting photos with the EOS R5 Mark II’s advanced electronic shutter, the camera’s DIGIC Accelerator processor lets it identify significant actions in three sports: football, basketball and volleyball. The camera automatically switches the active AF area to a person performing the kind of a critical action that has traditionally been hard to shoot, such as a shot from a high-speed pass.
Next Generation Eye Control AF
Select an AF area, or a subject to track, simply by looking at it. The use of newly developed optics and a revised line-of-sight algorithm enhances the accuracy of the system, compared with the EOS R3, and broadens the angle over which the system is effective, for a more natural experience.
Pre-continuous shooting
15 frames are buffered continuously while the shutter-release is half pressed, and written to memory card when you actually take the shot. This lets you capture images from the previous ½ sec, so you nail that decisive moment. At slower shooting speeds, the pre-capture time increases, giving you even more flexibility.

Notes
- Yaw, pitch, and roll image stabilization performance, based on the CIPA 2024 standard with RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z at a focal length of 105mm
- The AF area available vary depending on the lens used. For lens related details, please refer to [Supplemental Information] for [EOS R1] in “https://cam.start.canon”.
- The lowest light AF is available with an f/1.2 lens, center AF point, One-Shot AF, at 23°C / 73°F, ISO 100) Except RF lenses with a Defocus Smoothing (DS) coating
- Only available for still photos and electronic shutter. If the person's size on the screen is small, or if part of the subject is hidden or multiple subjects are crowded together, identification accuracy may decrease.
- Recommended Exposure Index. Expanded ISO speeds are not available when [HDR shooting (PQ): HDR PQ] is set.
- with 50mm lens at infinity, -1m-1 dpt
- Low light AF performance will be reduced when supress low frames is used
- When using EL/EX Speedlite and [Sync speed priority: Enable] is set
- Under Canon testing standards with CFexpress/SD card and during servo AF, only RF lenses and some EF lenses can be used for continuous shooting at the maximum speed. The continuous shooting speed may be reduced by the lens, shutter speed, aperture, flash, subject conditions, and brightness (for example, when shooting in a dark place). Continuous shooting speed is slower when flicker is detected, even if anti-flicker shooting is off. For more details please see the User's Guide at “https://cam.start.canon”
- Supported images: JPEG / HEIF images, Upscaled images can be cropped. The following images cannot be in-camera upscaled: RAW/C-RAW images, Images shot with a camera that is not the same model, Images resized or cropped by a camera, computer, or other device, In-camera upscaled images, Image size: Other than L, [Cropping/aspect ratio]: Other than Full-frame, Images shot with cropped shooting using an RF-S or EF-S lens, Images frame grabbed from movies, Images shot with the [Dual shooting (still&movie): On] setting. It may take some time for processing images. Shooting is not possible until the image processing finishes.
- Recording is possible only when using an CFexpress card.
- 8K UHD 4K UHD and Full HD are 94% horizontal coverage of the image area, RAW, SRAW, 8K DCI, 4K DCI and 2K DCI are 100%, DCI movie cropping mode is 62.1% and UHD/HD movie cropping mode is 58.1% of the horizonal area.
- HDR movie mode is not available when recording RAW movies. If the cameras internal temperature becomes too high the maximum recording time will be reduced
- If the cameras internal temperature becomes too high the maximum recording time will be reduced
- With [High Frame Rate: Disable] setting, movie is recorded with audio and the movie is played back at actual speed. With [High Frame Rate: Enable] setting, no audio is recorded and the movie is played in slow motion at 29.97 fps (NTSC) /25.00 fps (PAL) when played back. Only exFAT-formatted cards can be used for recording (recording to FAT32-formatted cards is not possible).
- The camera cannot frame grab still photos from RAW movies and movies recorded when [Custom Picture: On] is set. In-camera resizing or cropping and in-camera upscaling are not available for frame-grabbed still photos.
- Movie recording does not stop during still photo shooting. Movies are recorded to card 1, and still photos are recorded to card 2 (a card needs to be inserted in each slot). The settings during movie recording are applied to still photos. AF/AE operates with the settings suitable for movie recording. The colour tone may differ from that of normal still photos depending on the timing of still photo shooting. Additional restrictions may apply for more details please see the User's Guide. (https://cam.start.canon)
- HDMI CEC not supported
- 8K and 4K ProRes RAW: For compatibility with external recorders please check the external recorder manufacturer sites.
- Blur/out-of-focus detection may not be performed for some scenes or subjects, or results may be inaccurate. Only JPEG or HEIF images are evaluated, and only when the camera is set to use the electronic shutter and detect people or eyes.
- Although the camera features dust- and water-resistant construction, this cannot completely prevent dust or water droplets from entering the camera. To ensure adequate weather sealing, the supplied shoe cover should be used unless a weather sealed accessory is inserted in the Multi Function shoe.
